Dear All
It is time to hand over the baton for safeguarding and welfare. After 6 years of being your National Safeguarding Lead, I am stepping down to concentrate on the ‘day’ job as it goes through a period of growth and expansion.
It has been a privilege to work as part of the Board and to support Welsh Fencing to grow and develop. We have worked hard to better align our safeguarding practice with that of British Fencing and I would like to thank Liz Behnke, BF’s Welfare and Safeguarding Officer, for her support throughout my tenure in post. I would also like to thank all of the club Welfare Officers for their amazing efforts – without all of them my role would have been much harder!
I would like to welcome Julian Nash to the post.
Julian has a strong background of safeguarding and welfare through his ‘day’ job in the medical profession. He is a fencing parent, so fully appreciates some of the challenges that our fencers face – physically, emotionally and psychologically – so brings a wealth of experience to the post.
He will be in touch with you all in the near future and will update you all on anything new as the year progresses.
In the meantime, if you need to contact him he is on: julian.nash@fencing.cymru
I am sure I will still see you all at different events, as my two young people (no longer children) continue their fencing journeys in their own ways.
Thank you for your support and friendship
Best wishes
Tania
