Notice is hereby given that the 2024 AGM of Welsh Fencing will be held on 24th November 2024. It will be a hybrid meeting, details of which will be published on the Welsh Fencing website 28 days before the meeting, along with the statutory notices.
A total of 3 of the current elected Directors’ tenures come to an end at the AGM. These are:
- Chair – Matt Russell
- Secretary – Elaine Corcoran
- Director – John Rees
Nominations are invited from eligible members of Welsh Fencing for those 3 roles. All have a 2-year tenure except the role of Chair, which is a 4-year term.
After 6 years supporting Welsh Fencing as a director and then Chair, Matt Russell will not be seeking re-election to the board. This important role involves working closely with British Fencing, the other Celtic Nations NGB’s and Sport Wales. Governance, funding and fulfilling statutory company requirements form an integral part of the role, along with leading the strategic direction of Welsh Fencing throughout the period of tenure.
In addition, 2 of the current appointed Director’s tenures come to an end. These are:
- Tania Craig
- Marc Burkhalter
These positions are subject to appointment, and in recognition of the unique skills, knowledge and experiences that he brings to the Board, the Board intend to re-appoint Marc Burkhalter as a Director at the AGM. This is a 1-year appointment, but does not preclude him from seeking appointment by election.
Tania Craig will not be seeking re-election or appointment to the board. As Safeguarding Lead, the board will be seeking a replacement that is familiar with the requirements of this role, which include:
- Attend NGB Safeguarding Forum monthly through CPSU and attend relevant training from CPSU and Ann Craft Trust as appropriate
- Update policies on safeguarding and welfare and be the ‘owner’ of the National Safeguarding Level 1 for WF
- Liaise with BF on safeguarding issues and be up to date with all welfare training, including anti doping / first aid / National Lead Officer training
- Keep website info up to date and links live and be the first point of call for all safeguarding that is above club level having to deal with the situation in the first instance, going to board only if needed as they can be called as a panel for any very serious issues
- Keeping the board abreast of all safeguarding legislation as it is updated so they are fully aware and cognisant of their responsibilities
- Act as Welfare Officer for Welsh closed and open events as needed
Members will be aware that there were no nominations to replace the board members leaving at the end of their tenures leaving the future of Welsh Fencing at risk. The board are now pleased to announce that members have since come forward.
They are:
- Ceri Picton
- Erin Corcoran
- Richard Horan
- Rhian Martin
- Julian Nash
The board look forward to sharing updates from the last 12 months with members and duly appointing directors to the board.
