The board are pleased to announce the team that will be supporting the Welsh Team competing at the Commonwealth Championships in London later this year.
The competition this year is unique, as it comprises all four age-groups, from Cadets all the way up to Veterans competing consecutively at the same venue.
Because of this, the board considered that having a “Chef de Mission” type role would enable the event organisers and all Welsh staff and athletes to have one senior point of contact for the duration of the event if the need arises. This role will also support the team managers and coaches for each team as necessary. The Chair of Welsh Fencing, Matt Russell has agreed to perform this role.
The team managers and coaches for each of the teams are as follows. We are pleased to be able to bring additional coaches that expressed an interest in supporting our fencers to support the lead coaches at this event.

An important element of our strategy is to develop coaches, referees, and team managers. As part of the Commonwealth Championships, the organisers are planning training sessions throughout the competition. We are awaiting the final schedule, but if you are interested, please email the Chair of Welsh Fencing at matthew.russell@fencing.cymru . We may be able to offer some support for the cost of these sessions.
We are also pleased to announce the new representative kit that we will be premiering at the Commonwealth Championships.
The t-shirts are unique to this event, and the tracksuits will be available for any fencer selected for future events representing Wales (as a country, e.g. 5 Nations events).
